Octane boosters are designed to make your engine run better and longer and be more fuel-efficient.
They contribute to stability under compression. Octane boosters make sure that you’re “feeding” your engine the best fuel grade that you possibly can. This article is written to help you learn all about octane boosters.
Octane Booster and Its Purpose
Octane booster is that product that is designed to add more power to your vehicle. You must be thinking that’s what was missing in your life!
We all desire after more and more and octane booster caters to our need for ‘more power’ by raising the octane rating of the fuel. The higher octane rating means more excellent resistance to pre-ignition, which means a better ability to increase the compression ratio in the engine that, in return, generates more power.
Anti-knock additives are used by the octane boosters, which, when added to the fuel, prevent the onset of knock or pre-ignition. This raises the effective octane of the fuel.
The mass accepted idea behind octane boosters is that people can increase power by increasing octane in certain types of engines, and sometimes it can also increase vehicle efficiency. However, this only is the case for high compression engines, such as those found in sports cars. This means there is not much of a difference to be created by adding an octane booster to the fuel in an average car or vehicle. It might not be demonstrably effective.
The fuel in your snowmobile by itself does not dictate the amount of power it produces. The high octane requirement by some vehicles is based on the way their engines are tuned and not because of the fuel injection.
Fuel is just a mere necessity to make power and not equal power. If your snowmobile is not tuned to accommodate that type of fuel at a higher octane, it is not going to make any considerable difference in raising the power. Higher octane just burns slower so that they have fewer issues with pre-ignition.
If your snowmobile is a low horsepower sled and is not tuned to accommodate higher octane, then it is not going to make a lot more power than it already can. Therefore, it is not a very good idea to push your engine to its limit.
It is not going to change the way the sled is tuned and makes it into a much faster sled. There is, however, not a clear yes or no if the octane booster works effectively in each case. In some snowmobiles with more engine capacity, the octane booster does pump up the octane and makes more power, while in some due to the engine capacity, it does not make any evident difference.
What is the Best Octane Booster for Snowmobiles?
Our Recommendation: Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment
Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment is so far the best octane booster in the market that uses a unique enzyme technology that allows all engines to start quickly and run smoothly. It is a multifunctional fuel additive which even when using ethanol-blended fuel or after sitting idle for months, won’t go bad.
Ethanol fuel problems are eliminated and prevented by Star Tron. Excess water and sludge are broken down to sub-micron size by Star Tron, allowing it to be safely burned away during regular engine operation. This, in return, helps prevent phase separation.
By cleaning the entire fuel delivery system, Star, Tron also increases fuel economy, not only this, but it also removes performance-robbing gum and varnish deposits while modifying how fuel burns. As a result of which, more complete and uniform combustion, maximum performance, increased fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and reliable operation take place.
The fuel will be stabilized by Star Tron for up to two years, preventing the formation of gums and other solid particles that can clog carburetors and fuel injectors. Star Tron can also help rejuvenate old and sub-spec fuel and make it as new as possible. It is for everyday use and seasonal storage.
Star Tron is safe for all engines and overdosing is not at all harmful.
It is available in three convenient concentrations.
- 143XX Small Engine Formula. In this formula, each oz. treats up to 6 gallons of fuel.
- 930XX Concentrate Formula- Here, each oz. treats up to 16 gallons of fuel.
- 14501 Super Concentrate, this formula makes 1 oz. single dose shooter enough to treat up to 25 gallons of fuel.
The Concentrated formula #930XX is very economical of all to use in large and small applications as one oz. treats up to 16 gallons of fuel and is safe for use in all engines including 2-cycle pre-mix.
Amidst all the positives, there are a few negatives too. Some of the important ones are:
- It does not work on a subatomic level.
- It does not include built-in graduated dispenser/dosing aid. Without a built-in graduated dispenser, there is a chance of wastage and also makes it difficult to use and messy.
- It could be a little expensive for some as it outweighs the price of fuel.
The octane of petrol can be most definitely be raised by bottled octane boosters. However, to what extent they raise the octane varies from product to product.
There are only some high-quality octane boosters that can deliver the octane numbers they claim; however, there are also a lot of other products on the market that mislead and don’t deliver anywhere near their claims.
A lot of products also endorse their octane gain in points, which are often 0.1RON, so it can be quite misleading as to where you think you’re getting a 3.0RON increase, you’re only getting 0.3RON.
To give you more power comes down to a lot of variables, whether simply raising the octane of the fuel in your tank is going to raise it or not, it depends on other factors too.
